The name ACE™—which stood for All Cotton Elastic—was chosen in 1918 after a nationwide contest was held that offered physicians a chance to win $200 for coming up with the best name for the new bandage. 1918Oscar O. R. Schwidetzky is credited with the first development of the American-made ACE™ Bandage in 1918.

1940The unique tin can packaging was introduced.

1976 - 1980In 1976, the line of elastic bandages expanded to include hosiery and braces keeping pace with the latest technology and needs of a growing market. In 1980, ACE™ Brand woven bandages were introduced.

2005The launch of ACE™ Brand Antimicrobial Braces.

2007Updated look for ACE™ Brand.

2009New and improved Neoprene Braces were created. 3M acquires ACE™ Brand.

2012Updated packaging that celebrates the brand's heritage but adds a contemporary look and feel.

2014After listening to our customers we launched new twist on an old product, the Elastic Bandage with ACE™ Brand Clip.

For the last 100 years, families have grown up with an ACE™ Brand bandage. It is a staple of people’s lives that they are exposed to early on and can be used for a variety of purposes throughout life. This year we have created a commemorative tin can reflecting back on the beginnings of the ACE™ Bandage and some of the first packaging designs.
